French Country Furniture for Every Room in Your Home
French country furniture adds comfortable style to your home
decorating whether you start with just a backers rack or chairs,
or do an entire room. During pre-revolutionary times, style originated with
the king. Entire workshops with the best artists were dedicated to
creating and producing furniture and decorative arts for the royal family
alone. Outside Paris and Versailles, furniture design was inspired by
the court (especially Louis XV and Louis XVI), but it was more rustic and
functional. It was usually made from local wood and had design motifs
of local flora and fauna. Home decorating styles tended to lag behind what was
fashionable in Paris in proportion to the distance, and tended to change more
slowly. Each area of France had it's own style, Provençal,
Brittany and Burgundian are probably most familiar to us. Original
pieces are very difficult to find so we are fortunate that reproductions and
modern interpretations of these pieces are available. The bakers rack and
