Eileen Gray Table |
Prouve Cite Armchair |
Prouve Potence Lamp |
| This height-adjustable table from 1927 is one of
Eileen Gray's most rational designs and reflects her desire for
functional perfection. Originally conceived as a bedside table for the
guest room in Gray's famous E. 1027 house in Cap Martin, it is also
useful as a side table in living rooms, office reception areas or, on
the terrace. |
Favored
among collectors, it exhibits a certain static
dynamism with its low build and angled
backrest. A resilient fabric sling seat is stretched over the chair’s
tubular steel frame to produce a hammock effect, following the contours
and movement of the body for constant support. |
Designed in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand for
Prouv's Tropique house, the Potence Lamp (1950) provides a unique
solution for suspension lighting with its ingenious engineering and
elegant form. |

Hudson Armchair - Brushed |
Louis Ghost Armchair |
Heritage Rocking Armchair - Brushed |
| Originally designed for Ian Schrager's Hudson Hotel in New York
City, the exuberant Hudson Collection (2000) combines the contemporary
styling of Philippe Starck with Emeco's classic 1944 naval-ready form
and construction. |
Who else but Philippe Starck would dare mess with a king?
Reinventing the classic Louis XVI armchair for Kartell, the playful
Louis Ghost Armchair (2002) is a postmodern triumph of technical
innovation and historical style. |
Born out of a partnership between designer Philippe Starck and Emeco,
the classic aluminum naval chair is transformed into a sleekly modern
rocking chair. |
Le Corbusier Collection of Modern French Furniture
Le Corbusier collection of modern
furniture is minimalist but elegantly comfortable. Few would protest that Le
Corbusier, Charles Edouard Jenneret, is one of the most influential architects
of the 20th century. He articulated provocative ideas, created revolutionary
designs and demonstrated a strong, if utopian, sense of purpose — to meet the
needs of a democratic society dominated by the machine.
Charlotte Perriand is best remembered for her elegant modernist tubular steel
furniture of the 1920's and 1930's. In addition to Le Corbusier, Perriand also
collaborated with sculptor Fernand Leger and architect Jean Prouvé. She is one
of the most remarkable figures in the development of modernist design.
